Cyberwar, political realism, and world state (book chapter / 2018)

Does cyberwar require a new just war theory or could traditional just war theories be deployed in order to address the threat posed by cyberwar? In this book chapter argue that the unprecedented technological achievements since the end of World War II down to the information revolution of our own time have rendered traditional just war theories obsolete.

Our greatest challenge nowadays is not so much that of thinking of principles of justice to be applied within the system of states. The greatest challenge is to think of an alternative to the structure of the system of states within which we currently live and which constrains us to advance just war theories in the first place.
